The Horizon of Seascape (8 channel sound installation, 2010)
Continuing the sonic research and exploration of the concept of seascape since Auditory Scenes: Tsing Yi and Auditory Scenes: A Study of Seascape, the work The Horizon of Seascape aims at representing the artist’s further investigation on seascape form the perspective of oil tank, the working place of his father.
Turing the limitation and constraint from the exhibition space of Hanart TZ Gallery, the work is representational compression of auditory experiences into a flat “canvas” by adopting the practice of visual art. Consisting the captures of different sonic fragments during the artist’s on-going travelogue in the seascape in Hong Kong, the work articulates the artist’s journey in searching for his own auditory horizon during his travel in seascape. By composing sound materials for eight horizontally aligned speakers units, the artist tries to confront with visual discourse of horizon and constitute his own definition and interpretation of horizon and the perception of seascape and horizon through the activity of listening. Is the horizon can be found in the soundscape?
