Seven Rooms (Site-specific sound installation, 2011)
As I entered the building Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre for the first time, I had the feeling that sounds are the dynamic organs of this geometrically-shaped building: machines, air-conditioning, and some unknown soundings from rooms and places … these sounds constitute the internal resonances of the building; and therefore, you can treat them as an acoustic ecology system of the place.
In this site-specific sound installation for M9270 in Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre, the recording of the soundscape of the space is manipulated at micro level by custom software and circulated through speakers. This gesture corresponds to the soundscape and resonance of the space. What I want to achieve in this work is: turning the manipulated sounds become attached to our auditory perception of the place where we are getting familiar with the hybrid of manipulated sound and the soundscape.
The work is produced during the exhibition, White Walls Have Ears curated by Samson Young and supported by Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre Grand Opening Festival 2011 – 2012.
