Geometrik Conceptualism

Geometrik Conceptualism (CDr / MP3, Edition Niko, 2008)

Work by Hong kong sound artist Edwin Lo. Edwin’s silent and secret of soundscape, people can’t ignore this if u are interested in Francisco Lopez, Ralph Steinbruchel or Jason Kahn. Edwin Lo is a sound artist, field recordist and phonographer form Hong kong. He is currently finishing his final year of Degree in School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. Through different experiments on sound —- whatever in computer or in recording process —- Edwin Lo tries to think sound as an object of desire, as haunting memories and experiences, and articulation of our consciousness and awareness on listening. Wonderful view from unknown landscape. He focused on the sound of nature and its effect on humans, field recordings and the perception of time and space as experienced through sound, often electronically treated. But not like sample-loops, or no electronoise or something like digital, which is most beautiful part of his works and i can see some influences in it, his passion for architecture, photography, and interior design. This album is dedicated to Walter De Maria. (De Maria emerged as a leader of the Earthworks movement in 1968 when he filled the Galerie Heiner Friedrich in Munich with dirt. Earthworks and serial geometric sculpture continue to occupy De Maria in the 1970s: his Three Continent Project was completed in 1972 and the Lightning Field, one of his most accomplished work of land-art, in New Mexico was finished in 1977. He lives and works in New York. In 2000 two of his conceptual recordings from 1964 and 1968 finally came out on a self released CD. text from discogs) (-text by Edition NIkO)
