Auditory Scenes: Tsing Yi (Sound composition, 2009)

Locating in the remote area of Tsing Yi, along the sea shore, machines working, workers talking hammer filling and flowing in the place, inner and outer, indoor and outdoor……. Auditory Scenes: Tsing Yi is a conclusion of the shipbuilding visit in Tsing Yi . By recreating the sonic experiences of the visit, this work experimenting a vague spacial listening experience. Similar sources of sounds locate with different position of the headphone. How do we take the point of listening? What should we discover in such listening space? This work articulates and corresponds with the artist’s on-location experience of the soundscape in shipbuilding industry: sound of hammer was everywhere, flooded with ears and rooted in the impression of the places. This work is the first episode of the artist investigating the soundscape about the artist father’s working place, a oil supply ship.

This work was exhibited at “Hong Kong Sound Station” (6th February – 4th April, 2009) in Hong Kong’s Para/Site. More info can be found in Para/Site website.
