Auditory Scenes: A Study of Seascape (sound composition, 2009)
Certainly the first epic made by the artist which is considered as the second episode of the artist’s investigation about his father’s working place, a oil supply ship. Surrounded by seascape in Hong Kong, this work articulates a different perspective for listening and interpreting of some scenes encountered during this eight days observation as well as personal journey. This sonic journey and investigation not only portrays the uniqueness of certain augmented listening experiences; But also, this work opens up an listening practice associated with intimacy, messages and language. The internalization of recording practice is the crux that the artist want to address: “what is the meaning of this or that sound to me?” By questioning and recreating the essence of the field recording, this work is a process of re-understanding the “self” of the artist and the world surrounded him.
This work was produced during the FUSE Art in Residency (March – April, 2009) in Videotage, Hong Kong.
